Select the Right Clothing

Have you ever found yourself moving around in bed, tossing and turning, incredibly uncomfortable, with your nightwear bunching and pulling all around you? It is frustrating and makes it impossible to settle in for a good night’s sleep. Make your sleeping experience better by selecting the right bedtime clothing to ensure you feel good with what you are wearing so you can relax. Look for a high-quality night dress that is soft and gentle on your skin. Not only will it look beautiful while you are lounging around before you slip into bed for the night, but it will help you relax, too.

Set the Temperature

Everyone has an ideal temperature for a variety of activities, but most people agree on keeping it a bit cooler for sleep. Many sleep experts will advise you to keep the thermostats set between 65-68°F to ensure a restful night’s sleep. Colder temperatures may cause you to shiver and focus on warming your body’s core, and hotter temperatures lead to too much tossing and turning to try to stay comfortable. If you have a smart thermostat, program it to your ideal temperature between the recommended range, approximately 15 minutes before you turn in for the evening. You can also program the thermostat to warm your room up about 15 minutes before your alarm is set to go off in the morning, too.

Pay Attention to Sounds

If there are any sounds that you can hear when you finally place your head upon your pillow, you should consider whether they will add or detract from your sleep. For example, if you live near a river or the ocean and can hear the water moving, this might be a comforting and calming sound that you want to incorporate into your sleep experience. If, however, you live in a bustling metropolis with a lot of traffic, closing your windows to shut out the noise is probably preferable. Consider investing in a sound machine to create an atmosphere with ambient noises to drown out whatever is going on outside or simply to help soothe you to sleep. Alternatively, you can download an app of your choosing to turn your smartphone into a soothing sound machine.
