If coffee, cigarettes and food leave marks on your teeth, you are not alone. Many people will spare no effort to restore their pearl white teeth.

“Due to various reasons, teeth naturally turn yellow, including smoking, eating high-pigmented foods, drinking coffee, tea or red wine, antibiotic treatment, injuries, and excessive fluoride and tartar accumulation,” says dentists around the world. But did you know that Mother Nature has several natural solutions that can restore the natural whiteness of your teeth?

Do’s

  • Eat foods that can be used as cleansers and natural teeth whitening. To keep teeth shiny and prevent yellowing, you need to chew certain crispy fruits and vegetables that produce a lot of saliva secretion to remove staining bacteria, which work like a small toothbrush and will remove stubborn stains over time. So eat more apples, carrots, pears, guava, cauliflower and cucumber.
  • Eat more dark green vegetables. Vegetables such as broccoli, lettuce, and spinach can act as a barrier to teeth, forming a film that prevents stains from reappearing, and can remove stubborn stains over time.
  • Eat more fibre-rich whole foods; they act as a natural toothpaste.
  • Mash the strawberries in a bowl, then use your fingers to spread the pulp on all the teeth. Let it sit for a minute or two, then rinse and brush off.
  • Drink fluids with a straw to protect teeth from coffee, tea, red wine and cola’s direct contact.
  • Drink plenty of water every day to hydrate your teeth well.

Don’ts

  • The general rule is that anything that stains your white T-shirt will stain your teeth. This means that most types of berries, as well as soy sauce, red wine, a lot of juice, coffee, tea. You don’t have to be completely absent of them, but immediately rinse your mouth with water, brush your teeth or chewing gum after trying.
  • Please note that the acid contained in citrus fruits will break down tooth enamel over time.
  • Remember, these sports drinks, energy drinks and fitness water contain organic acids that break down calcium. So, they are particularly good at tooth decay. Recent studies have shown that they are more harmful to tooth enamel than cocktails.
  • Reduce the intake of acidic foods such as vinegar. Slightly acidic foods will open the pores of tooth enamel, which can easily become discoloured.
  • Avoid highly processed sugar and high fructose corn syrup, especially sticky foods that will be in contact with teeth for a long time.
  • Extremely hot or cold liquids are very dangerous. They change the temperature of your teeth. This temperature change can cause the teeth to swell and touch, allowing stains to enter the teeth.
  • Tobacco is the culprit that causes rapid tooth discolouration.
