Indian women boxers, Saweety Boora, and Nitu Ghanghas made history on Saturday night at the Women’s Boxing Championship in New Delhi by winning gold medals in their respective categories. Saweety defeated her Chinese opponent Wang Lina in the light heavyweight 75-81 kg category with a 4-3 split
decision. This is her first gold medal at the championship after winning a silver medal nine years ago in 2014. She joins six other Indian boxers who have won gold in previous editions of the championship.

Nitu Ghanghas, on the other hand, won her maiden final in the 48kg category against Mongolia’s Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg with a unanimous 5-0 decision. The 20-year-old had a smooth journey to the finals, defeating Kang Doyeon of Korea, Qosimova Sumaiya of Tajikistan, and Wada Madoka of Japan in the earlier rounds. Her win against Kazakhstan’s Alua Belkibekova in the semi-finals was a game-changer for her, leading to her historic win.

Both Saweety and Nitu showcased their skills and talent, making the country proud. This is a remarkable achievement for women’s boxing in India and a testament to the growing prominence of women in the sport. Their hard work and dedication have paid off, and they have proved that Indian women boxers
are a force to be reckoned with.
