Indian Shuttlers Win Silver in England
Indian badminton players Raksha Kandasamy and Taarini Suri showcased their talent and determination at the BWF All-England Junior Badminton Championships held in England. In the women’s singles final, Navi Mumbai-based Raksha, seeded second, put up a tough fight against Canada’s top-seeded Jackie Dent. Despite a closely contested match, Raksha had to settle for silver after losing in three games, with scores of 21-19, 12-21, 11-21.
In the mixed doubles event, Mumbai-based Taarini partnered with England’s Dillon Chong. They displayed impressive teamwork throughout the tournament. However, in the final, they faced a strong American duo, Garret Tan and Ella Lin. Taarini and Dillon fought hard but were defeated in two games, with scores of 18-21, 18-21, earning them the silver medal.
Earlier in the semi-finals, Taarini and Dillon overcame the Spanish team of Marc Martin and Macarena Izquierdo in a thrilling match, securing a 21-19, 22-20 victory. In the other semi-final, Garret and Ella dominated the English pair of Robin Harper and Lucy Brierley, winning with a swift 21-15, 21-11 victory.
In the women’s singles semi-finals, top-seeded Jackie Dent proved her dominance by defeating sixth-seeded Indian player Naishaa Kaur Bhatoye with scores of 21-19, 21-7.
The Indian players’ commendable performances in the prestigious tournament reflect the overall upsurge in India’s badminton scene. They have brought pride to the nation with their achievements on the international stage.
