Rohiqa Mistry, the chairperson of the construction company, Pallonji Mistry, has become India’s second-richest woman with a net worth of Rs 56,000 crore ($7.6 billion). Mistry’s wealth comes from her 18.4 percent stake in Tata Sons, the holding company of Tata Group, India’s largest conglomerate. Rohiqa Mistry is one of the three women who became a billionaire in India in 2023, according to Forbes.

Mistry, the wife of construction tycoon Shapoorji Pallonji Mistry, started her career as a teacher before joining the board of directors of her husband’s company in 1990. She became the chairperson of the company in 2012 and has since expanded its operations to include real estate development and infrastructure projects.

Mistry’s rise to becoming one of the wealthiest women in India is also linked to her husband’s partnership with Ratan Tata, the former chairman of Tata Sons. Mistry’s husband acquired an 18.4 percent stake in Tata Sons in 1965, which was later inherited by Mistry after her husband’s death in 1996.

Mistry’s fortune places her second on the list of India’s wealthiest women, behind only Savitri Jindal, the chairperson of Jindal Steel and Power, who has a net worth of $8.6 billion.
