India’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj, presented a six-point plan at the UN Security Council to support Africa’s efforts in silencing guns by the end of this decade. Kamboj highlighted the chronic political instability, ethnic divisions, and exploitation by terrorist and armed groups that have contributed to the conflict-ridden state of several African countries. She stressed the importance of supporting African-led solutions to these issues and the need to recognize the primacy of national governments and authorities in sustaining peace development. Kamboj’s six-point plan includes an emphasis on inclusive politics, African leadership and solutions, the role of regional and sub-regional organizations, capacity-building for responses to terrorism, strengthening peacebuilding efforts, and providing Africa with permanent representation in the decision making process. India has been supporting several African countries through development partnerships, capacity-building, scholarships, vocational training, knowledge-sharing, and market access for African products.
