Madhubala, a beloved Bollywood actress, had a tumultuous love story with Dilip Kumar that spanned nearly a decade. Unfortunately, her father played a role in their eventual breakup. Following this heartbreak, Madhubala shocked the world by marrying the legendary singer Kishore Kumar, but the reasons behind this union were far from conventional.

Kishore Kumar had been deeply in love with Madhubala for some time, and when she ended her relationship with Dilip Kumar, he finally mustered the courage to propose to her. What astonished many was her acceptance of his proposal, even though she was still harboring feelings for her former beau. Madhubala’s sister disclosed, “Madhubala married Kishore Kumar out of stubbornness and anger towards Dilip saab. They got married in 1960 when she was 27 years old.”

Their marriage faced significant challenges from the start. Madhubala was diagnosed with a serious heart condition known as Ventricular Septal Defect shortly after the wedding. The couple traveled to the UK for her treatment, where Kishore stood by her side. However, their relationship took a bitter turn as Madhubala’s health deteriorated. Her sister claimed that she lived alone in a Mumbai bungalow with only a nurse and driver, while Kishore, who had once been madly in love with her, failed to be a caring husband.

Kishore Kumar had his own perspective on their relationship. He revealed, “I knew she was very sick even before I married her. But a promise is a promise. So, I kept my word and brought her home as my wife, even though I knew she was dying from a congenital heart problem. For 9 long years, I nursed her. I watched her die before my own eyes, and it’s something you can never truly comprehend until you experience it yourself.”

Madhubala’s marriage to Kishore Kumar was a complex and challenging chapter in her life, marked by love, anger, and a deep commitment to caring for a woman he had once adored.
