Actors may have a bigger platform to speak and influence others, but they are also more vulnerable, especially to body shaming, stereotyping, and sexism in the industry. Actress Radhika Apte, known for her powerful performances in movies and web series, spoke about her experiences with these issues in a recent interview with Film Companion.

Apte revealed that people used to think she could only play village girl roles until she did the movie Badlapur, after which people assumed she could only do sex comedies and be a stripper. She also recalled being asked to get breast implants and losing out on roles because of her weight.

However, Apte pointed out that people are becoming more aware of these issues and are more accepting of conversations around body shaming and sexism. She said that women in the industry are now able to speak out against these issues and have the power to remove those who perpetrate them from their projects.

Other actresses, including Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kajol, Raveena Tandon, and yesteryear’s stars like Sharmila Tagore and Wahida Rehman, have also spoken out about body shaming, pay disparity, and sexism in the industry. By sharing their experiences, these women are working to create a safer and more equal environment for future generations of actresses.
