Welcome to the empowering universe of SheSight, a platform dedicated to amplifying women’s narratives in the media. At its core, lies the She Writer series, where we engage in heart-to-heart conversations with remarkable women who regularly contribute their written insights to the platform.

Adding another gem to our She Writer’s series, we are thrilled to introduce Nidhi Raj, a dynamic individual, who embarked on a unique journey from studying History to diving into Management Discipline. Join us as we explore the twists and turns that led her to become a powerful voice, on the SheSight platform.

Nidhi, how did your journey from History to Management to becoming a writer unveil your passion for addressing women’s issues and global affairs?

Nidhi: Well, there wasn’t a specific plan. Writing just happened to me. It had been there since childhood essays, even during my teaching career until 2020. The pandemic rekindled my writing as a natural way to express myself. It became my coping mechanism and a journey of self-discovery, pushing me to focus on issues close to my heart, especially those affecting women.

Your transition from teaching to writing seems organic. Can you share the moment that sparked this change and what fueled your determination?

Nidhi: Teaching naturally led to writing as I often wrote about management while preparing lectures. The real shift came when I moved to a new place and, while seeking teaching opportunities, a friend asked me to write for her magazine. Seeing my published article and my name in print was a joyful validation. It ignited a determination to pursue writing, realizing that this was where my happiness lay.

How do you balance being a hands-on mom, homemaker, and married to a busy doctor? Does this dynamic life influence your unique perspective on women’s issues?

Nidhi: Balancing all these roles has been fulfilling for me. With some time management, delegation, and help, I make time for writing. Transitioning from a working woman to a homemaker opened my eyes to different women and their issues, which I am driven to bring attention to. Motherhood and homemaking don’t hold me back; they enhance my experiences, shaping my understanding of women’s challenges.

What motivates you to support workplace equality and share home responsibilities in your articles, and how do your experiences shape your writing?

Nidhi: I am passionate about addressing women’s issues, especially workplace equality and sharing responsibilities at home—they are close to my heart. I believe in being vocal and presenting our arguments with facts, figures, and common sense. Change won’t happen unless we ask for it; we need to be our own saviors. I share stories of historical women to inspire young girls, emphasizing that quitting is never an option. They walked so we could run, and I want to remind women of their strength.

Nidhi, your interest in international relations is fascinating. How does it influence your writing, given your background in history and management?

Nidhi: International relations is something I have grown passionate about, even though I did not pursue it academically. My interest in world affairs stayed with me and I bring that interest into my writing. With my background in history, I observe mismanagement globally and aim to shed light on these issues. Learning from the past is crucial, and I hope my perspective helps people see the larger picture and make informed decisions.

Any advice for aspiring writers looking to make a switch like yours? How did teaching shape your approach to writing?

Nidhi: My advice to young writers is simple: write daily, and practice consistently. Though opportunities may be few initially, continuous practice keeps you prepared. In my journey, I focused on learning, upskilling, and taking risks. If it brings you joy, go all in, and give it your 100%.
