In a historic moment for Sri Lanka’s women’s cricket team, they secured their first-ever series victory against England in any format. The breakthrough came with a convincing 2-1 series win, clinched through a dominant seven-wicket triumph over Heather Knight’s England in the third T20I held in Derby.

Chamari Athapaththu played a pivotal role in this historic achievement, contributing both with the ball and bat. She took three crucial wickets to restrict England to a mere 116 runs. Athapaththu then showcased her prowess with the bat, scoring an excellent 44 off just 28 deliveries, ensuring Sri Lanka reached the target with three overs to spare. Unsurprisingly, Athapaththu was named the ‘Player of the Match’ and ‘Player of the Series’ for her outstanding all-round performances, amassing a total of 114 runs and claiming five wickets across the three matches.

While Athapaththu stood out, her teammates provided essential support in the series decider. Inoshi Priyadharshani and Udeshika Prabodhani both made crucial contributions with the ball, picking up key wickets. Kavisha Dilhari also played her part with two important scalps, as England was bowled out from the final delivery of the penultimate over.
