A candid conversation about AI, jobs, and the skills that actually matter in 2025

– By Dr.CeeVee | for CeeVee’s Corner, August 2025

Meta AI generated.

Last week, I received six resumes. All from seasoned writers, all hoping to join Shesight Magazine as a writer/reporter/editor. Each one carefully crafted, showcasing impressive portfolios and years of experience. And I had to delete every single one.

Not because they weren’t talented. Not because their work wasn’t good enough. But because the job they were applying for no longer exists.

Five years ago, when I started Shesight, I had a team of dedicated staff reporters churning out three articles each per day. Every piece had to pass through a senior editor’s desk for review and proofreading before publication. It was a well-oiled machine of human creativity and oversight.

Today? I run the same operation with one person. That person publishes more articles daily than my entire previous team combined. The research is done by AI. The first drafts are generated by AI. Even this article you’re reading was outlined and structured with AI assistance (I gave a voice note on what I wanted to talk about, and Claude AI churned the article in 2 mins, which I further spent 15 mins to finetune. Compare this to the several hours I would have spent otherwise – I used to set aside one full day every month to write the editorial. )

But writers are just the tip of the iceberg. The uncomfortable truth is this: entire categories of jobs are disappearing faster than we care to admit. And I’m not here to sugarcoat it – I’m here to give you the reality check you need to hear.

The Mass Extinction Event Nobody Talks About

Writing was just my industry’s wake-up call. But look around – the redundancy wave is hitting everywhere.

Customer service representatives? Chatbots now handle 80% of inquiries better than humans ever could, available 24/7 without sick days or attitude problems. Data entry clerks? Gone. Basic accounting roles? Automated. Junior lawyers doing document review? AI can process legal documents in minutes, not hours.

Graphic designers creating social media posts and basic layouts are watching AI tools pump out professional-looking designs in seconds. Translators are seeing their work done instantly by AI that speaks 100+ languages fluently. Market researchers who used to spend weeks gathering data now see AI compile comprehensive reports overnight.

Even in fields we thought were “safe” – medical diagnostic imaging is increasingly being read by AI systems that can spot anomalies human radiologists miss. Financial analysts are being replaced by algorithms that can process market data and trends faster than any human team.

I’m not trying to scare you. I’m trying to wake you up. Because while we’re all debating whether AI will eventually take jobs, it’s already happening. Right now. Today.

Companies aren’t looking for writers anymore – or data entry clerks, or basic graphic designers, or customer service reps. They’re looking for problem-solvers who happen to use AI as their superpower.

They don’t want someone who can craft beautiful sentences. They want someone who can identify inefficient processes and streamline them. They don’t need another content creator. They need someone who can walk in and say, “I can eliminate your biggest bottlenecks and make your operations 50% more efficient.”

The resume that would catch my attention today wouldn’t list “excellent writing skills” as the top qualification. It would showcase how the candidate automated their previous company’s social media scheduling, or how they implemented an AI tool that reduced research time from hours to minutes, or how they created a system that eliminated three approval layers without sacrificing quality.

The Skills That Survive the AI Revolution

So what skills should you be developing if you want to remain relevant? Here’s what I’ve learned from running a lean, AI-enhanced operation:

Technology Adaptation – The ability to quickly learn and integrate new AI tools isn’t just helpful; it’s essential. Every month brings new software that could revolutionize how we work. The employees who thrive are those who see a new tool and immediately think, “How can this solve our current problems?”

Process Optimization – Can you look at a workflow and spot the unnecessary steps? Can you identify where human intervention adds value versus where it’s just tradition? This skill is gold.

Strategic Thinking – While AI can generate content, it can’t set business strategy. It can’t understand market positioning or brand voice in the nuanced way humans can. If you can think big picture while managing AI-powered execution, you’re irreplaceable.

Quality Control and Curation – AI produces volume, but humans provide judgment. The ability to quickly assess, edit, and elevate AI-generated work is crucial. You become the conductor of an AI orchestra.

Cross-functional Integration – The days of staying in your lane are over. The most valuable employees can bridge departments, understand multiple aspects of a business, and see how their AI-enhanced work fits into larger company goals.

Authentic Human Connection – Here’s something that might surprise you: I recently hired two people whose entire job is talking to real people. Not managing chatbots, not optimizing automated responses – just building genuine relationships for sales. Because while AI can handle information exchange perfectly, it can’t read the subtle hesitation in someone’s voice, catch the unspoken concern behind a question, or build the personal rapport that turns prospects into loyal clients. My team members understand clients in ways that no chatbot ever will – they pick up on emotional cues, adapt their communication style mid-conversation, and create the human trust that closes deals. In a world increasingly dominated by automated interactions, genuine human connection has become a premium service.

When Your Job Becomes Redundant

But what if you’re reading this and realizing your current role is already on the chopping block? First, don’t panic. Second, start planning.

Assess Your Transferable Skills – That “redundant” writing experience? It taught you research, deadline management, audience analysis, and quality control. These are valuable when reframed correctly.

Identify Your Company’s Pain Points – Every business has processes that everyone complains about but no one fixes. If you can become the person who fixes them using AI tools, you’ve just created your own job security.

Become the Bridge – Many companies are struggling to implement AI effectively. If you can become the person who understands both the human side of the business and the AI tools available, you become indispensable.

Start Small, Think Big – Begin by automating one small process in your current role. Show measurable results. Then expand. Build a reputation as the person who makes things work better.

The Personal Reality

I won’t sugarcoat this: the transition is jarring. Watching entire job categories disappear feels like witnessing an economic earthquake in slow motion. Some days, I miss the collaborative energy of my larger team. But I can’t argue with the mathematics of survival.

My current operation is more efficient, produces higher volume, maintains quality standards, and operates at a fraction of the cost. This isn’t just about profit margins – it’s about staying competitive in a market where companies that don’t adapt get crushed by those that do.

This isn’t some distant future scenario. This is happening right now, in real companies, affecting real people. The choice isn’t whether to participate in this transformation – it’s whether you’ll be driving it or driven out by it.

The employees who thrive in this new reality aren’t necessarily the most talented at their original jobs. They’re the most adaptable. They’re the ones who see AI as a force multiplier rather than competition.

Looking Forward

The job market of 2025 rewards flexibility over expertise, problem-solving over task completion, and integration over specialization. The question isn’t whether AI will change your industry – it already has.

If you’re someone who can walk into any company and say, “Here’s how I can eliminate your three biggest operational headaches using AI tools most people don’t even know exist,” you’ll never be unemployed. If you’re still updating a resume that lists traditional skills without mentioning how you leverage technology to amplify results, you’re already behind.

Yes, this is a scary reality check. But it’s also an incredible opportunity. The companies and individuals who embrace this shift aren’t just surviving – they’re dominating their markets while their competitors wonder what happened.

The future belongs to those who can make the complex simple, the manual automated, and the impossible routine. AI is the tool. Human insight, strategy, and adaptability remain the drivers.

The question is: will you be part of the solution, or part of the redundancy?

We’re All Figuring This Out Together

Navigating this transition isn’t something you have to do alone. The speed of change means we all need support systems and communities where we can share strategies, learn from each other’s successes and failures, and find encouragement when the path forward feels unclear. That’s exactly why I started Shepower Club – a space where women can connect with peers who understand the unique challenges of career transitions in this AI-driven landscape. Because sometimes the best insights come not from experts, but from someone who’s walking the same uncertain path you are.

What skills are you developing to stay ahead of the AI curve? Share your thoughts and strategies – because in this rapidly changing landscape, we’re all figuring it out together.
