On March 8, Dr. Philamazan joined forces with nine other women in Thiruvananthapuram, all wielding their own 4WDs, for an exhilarating ride from Thiruvananthapuram to Kovalam. Dubbing themselves the “Jeeper Girls of Trivandrum,” their common bond lies in their shared passion for rugged four-wheel drives.

“All eyes were on our vehicles as we drove to Kovalam. Four of us proudly own Mahindra Thars. This inspired me to think of forming a community like this,” shares Dr. Asha Biju.

For Dr. Namitha, the allure of adventure coupled with the vehicle’s comfort solidifies her advocacy for SUVs. Dr. Ambika Shetty, driven by a New Year’s resolution to step beyond her comfort zone, eagerly joined the ride in her Thar.

The genesis of this group stemmed from three doctors who are members of the same Inner Wheel Club (Blossoms) in Thiruvananthapuram, sparking Asha’s idea of uniting 4WD owners.

Entrepreneur Lekshmi VG, a seasoned off-roader, extols the versatility of the 4X4 Thar, emphasizing its capability to traverse diverse terrains. Entrepreneur Shincy Anand, echoing sentiments of comfort and ease, affirms her preference for the 4×4.

Asserting the suitability of narrow roads in Thiruvananthapuram, the women unanimously praise the safety and comfort afforded by their vehicles. Dr. Namitha, owning a Thar, appreciates the heightened visibility provided by the vehicle’s height.

Beyond adept driving skills, many of these women exhibit proficiency in basic vehicle maintenance, from tire changes to engine assessments. Dr. Awungshi conducts meticulous check-ups before each journey, inheriting practical skills from her father, including puncture repair.

Asha emphasizes the importance of mechanical knowledge for all drivers, regardless of gender, advocating for basic maintenance awareness and preparedness for long drives. Her husband and son share her passion for automobiles, fostering a family tradition of motor enthusiasm.

Eager to embark on more adventures, these women rev their engines for future trips and long-distance drives in their trusted 4×4 companions.
