On India’s 77th Independence Day, Tripura shared inspiring achievements. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha announced that 20% of women from self-help groups (SHGs) have become millionaires. The state’s commitment to SHGs has yielded remarkable results.

With over 46,000 SHGs comprising 4.13 lakh women, Tripura’s vision for empowerment shines. An impressive 80,000 rural women are set to join SHGs this year, amplifying this movement. The Chief Minister praised the World Bank’s 1,400 crore rupees contribution to boost tribal communities’ development through the Tripura Rural Economy Growth and Sustainable Service Delivery project.

Tripura has actively promoted women SHGs, linking their products to the Public Distribution System last year, enhancing rural women’s lives. In the fiscal year 2022-23, the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission mobilized around 63,808 women into 7,696 SHGs.

Notably, robust financial management is evident, with only 2.74% of SHG loans turning into Non-Performing Assets (NPAs). CM Saha highlighted the resilience of women leaders in repaying loans despite challenges.

Empowering women through SHGs has led to an outstanding 20% achieving millionaire status, illustrating the positive impact of Tripura’s efforts.
