High cholesterol is a health issue that affects both men and women. It is caused by various factors such as an unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, and more. While there are several ways to diagnose high cholesterol, our body can also show some visible signs that shouldn’t be ignored.
According to the British Heart Foundation, a white ring appears in the iris of your eyes when harmful cholesterol levels rise. Additionally, yellow spots around your eyes might indicate a high level of LDL cholesterol. If left untreated, these spots can eventually reach the nose. Another sign of high cholesterol is cholesterol-based swellings on the knuckles of your hands, the back of your ankle’s Achilles tendon, or your knees, known as tendon xanthomata.
Changes in the skin can also indicate high cholesterol. If you notice blue or purple net-like patterns on your skin that vanish as your skin warms up, it may not be a big concern. However, it may indicate cholesterol embolization syndrome, a condition that occurs when tiny arteries are blocked, resulting in damaged tissues and organs.
