In a recent survey conducted by global recruitment firm Michael Page, it was discovered that almost all white-collar employees in India are open to exploring new job opportunities. The Talent Trends study 2023, which involved nearly 4,000 skilled professionals, revealed that 75 percent of them are actively seeking new job prospects, either on a daily basis or within the next six months.

Another 23 percent expressed openness to considering a job change while remaining undecided. In total, a staggering 98 percent of the surveyed white-collar employees across various industry sectors indicated their willingness to explore new career avenues.

According to Ankit Agarwala, Managing Director of Michael Page India, the survey findings highlight the fact that people continue to “constantly look out for new opportunities, regardless of prevailing economic conditions.” The study also showed that the inclination to seek new job prospects is not influenced by the feasibility of finding one.

The participants in the survey included 21 percent top-level executives, such as C-suite employees, 51 percent departmental managers, 14 percent mid-level professionals like line managers, and 10 percent who did not hold any managerial responsibilities.

These findings indicate a significant shift in the job market landscape, with long-term company loyalty losing its appeal. Job hopping is increasingly becoming the norm, driven by a shortage of skills in the market. Employers no longer prioritize loyalty as they did several years ago, instead focusing on finding the right skills for their organizations.

As the job market continues to evolve, white-collar employees in India are embracing the idea of exploring new opportunities and staying proactive in their career pursuits.
