Woman Entrepreneur Along with her Mother-in-law got 50 Lakhs in Shark Tank India for Their Eco-friendly Venture
Carragreen is an eco-friendly packaging solution company co-founded by Surabhi Shah and her mother-in-law, Chetna Shah. The company which specialises in biodegradable stationery and packaging solutions recently won 50 lakhs in Shark Tank India.
Even when working in TCS, Surabhi Shah’s end goal was always Entrepreneurship. But the dream of it got fulfilled only after her marriage with Nirmit Shah and she moved to Indore. She had seen a photo of a tortoise with growth deformity because of a plastic bottle cap it swallowed. The picture broke her heart and she wanted to do something to reduce the plastic consumption of humans.
That is how she started Carragreen in 2018. Carragreen is an eco-friendly venture that produces biodegradable stationery and packaging solutions. The product range includes pencils, pens, seed paper diaries, and monthly calendars. Apart from this, perforated biodegradable boxes that can be used to pack and transfer food items and transform them into plates and spoons when required are also part of its product list. Carraspoons, made from wood, are a bestseller product.
Soon after, her mother-in-law Chetna Shah joined the business. Chetna Shah had years of experience in the bakery business. And her networking in Indore was a big help to Carragreen’s business.
Carragreen was incubated at IIM-Bangalore. It was also among the top 100 women-led startups out of 6,000 selected for a course by NSRCEL. Carragreen’s emphasis is on the B2B model, and it currently has Haldiram and other FMCG giants among its clients. For stationery, they approach hotels, schools, and conference organisers directly. Sheraton is one of its prime customers.
The startup recently acquired Rs 50 lakh in funding on Shark Tank India and they plan to execute a co-branding model, which will have commercial benefits, apart from expanding the customer base.
