Women Army Officers Join PM Modi on Independence Day
During the commemoration of the 77th Independence Day at Red Fort on August 15, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had the honor of being accompanied by two dedicated women Army officers who assisted him in hoisting the national flag. Major Nikita Nair and Major Jasmine Kaur, both serving in the Indian Army, were by his side for this significant event.
Among them, Major Nikita Nair, a former beauty queen and accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer, showcased her prowess. Having previously held the titles of Miss OTA during her training and ‘May Queen Miss Pune’ in 2013, Nikita was commissioned as a Lieutenant in 2016 and now holds the position of a Major.
The flag hoisting was coupled with a 21-gun salute by the elite 8711 Field Battery (Ceremonial) commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Vikas Kumar. The National Flag Guard, consisting of officers and personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Delhi Police, presented a Rashtriya Salute during the unfurling of the flag by PM Modi. Leading this Inter-Services Guard and Police Guard was Major Abhinav Detha from the Army.
The event featured a spectacular display, including petals showered from indigenously built Dhruv advanced light helicopter Mark-III, captained by Wing Commander Amber Agarwal and Squadron Leader Himanshu Sharma.
Following this moving display, Prime Minister Modi addressed the nation. The 2023 Independence Day marked the culmination of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, initiated by the Prime Minister on March 12, 2021, from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It also rekindled India’s aspirations for development by 2047.
Special Guests numbering around 1,800, including representatives from various fields and regions, were part of the Red Fort celebrations. The event celebrated unity and collective progress in line with the Government’s vision of ‘Jan Bhagidari’.
