Women Farmers Empowered Through Tractor Training
The ‘Mahila Kisan Sashaktikaran Pariyojana’ is paving the way for women farmers in India to break traditional barriers and embrace modern farming techniques. As part of this program, women are learning to operate farm tractors confidently, challenging the notion that tractor driving is solely a man’s job.
At a training program organized by the MKSP in Panthalayani block panchayat, in Kerala, 11 women are getting hands-on experience in tractor driving. Initially, the idea of sitting at the wheel of a tractor was daunting for Ramya and her batchmates. However, with the support and encouragement of their trainers, they are gaining confidence and mastering the skill.
The MKSP aims to promote women’s participation in the agriculture sector and create employment opportunities for them by providing training in machinery-backed farming techniques. By breaking gender stereotypes and empowering women with the knowledge and skills required for modern farming, the project hopes to see more women farmers actively engaged in agricultural activities. The focus is on women who have a keen interest in farming, and the initiative seeks to open doors for more women to enter the agricultural workforce.
Ramya and her fellow trainees are enthusiastic about the opportunity to drive heavy machinery like tractors, proving that they are no less capable than men. As they embrace this exhilarating experience, women farmers are poised to blaze a trail in the field of agriculture.
