Campus to Career program 2020 – 21
Prayaana launched its ambitious and zealous program for Campus Ambassadors – ‘Campus to Career 2021’ in the month of December 2020.
The program is a manifestation of a transformational saga of selecting, on boarding, training, facilitating and empowering young, enthusiastic and inspirational girls. Encompassed with the ultimate aim of making the girls skilled by providing a perfect platform to showcase and sharpen the multifarious talents and potentials each one of them holds and to impart the same in other girls at their campus.
It was launched with the vision of intervening at an early age of life and grooming the girls to become a better version of themselves right from their college years. It aimed at clarifying all career related dilemmas and ambiguity that a girl faces towards her career. Moreover it emphasized upon clearing all the misconceptions and hesitations regarding the start of a career. The platform of Prayaana focused at providing the real time exposure to the ground if working and to the nuances of the corporate world, by letting the girls closely work with leading successful women entrepreneurs and corporates. Working along the lines of UN sustainable development goal 5 : Gender equality, the program strives for skill development and empowerment of all girls from a very early stage of life, that is, right from her college, which is the primary stepping stone for her career. The experiential interaction assured to provide with a learning experience to all the Campus Ambassadors and make them career ready through the mentoring system, by the end of the journey.
The drive to register for the program was carried out and participants from all over India registered for the Campus Ambassador event. The pool of girls that accumulated post the registration was inclusive of curious, inquisitive, active and pro-active girls who showed eagerness towards learning and gaining the maximum through the golden opportunity.
The Campus to Career Quest was a 5 day, activity and fun filled fest for all the Campus Ambassadors. It started from 26th December, 2020 and was continued till 30th December 2020.
The aim of Campus 2 Career mission 2021 to empower, build, upbring and train 2021 girls and women by the end of the year 2021 was shared on the first day of the event. The host of the event Ms. Tejaswini S. welcomed Ms.Keziah Thomas(Chief Mentor, Prayaana) to brief about the activities undertaken at Prayaana. Dr. Chandra Vadhan R. (CEO and Chief mentor , Prayaana) shared the vision behind the program and the idea behind its launch. The developments of the day primarily comprised of welcoming the registered Campus Ambassadors on board and debriefing them about the entire program, their roles and responsibilities. A panel discussion was carried on the core competencies of a Campus Ambassadors and their significance. The occasion graced by the presence of esteemed panelists who are also the mentors for the event- Ms.Ameeta, Ms.Gayatri, Dr.Prathima Shah, Dr.Kanaka Durga, Ms.Kruti Desai. The moderation was fine by the host. Each panelist discussed about two career competencies. A batch of previous year Campus Ambassadors and Prayaana members put forth their experience and takeaways from Prayaana. Ms. Rati (community head, Prayaana) unfolded the process of Campus Ambassador event. The mentors were assigned to the campus ambassadors with whom they were supposed to work for further two days. The value of leadership and the importance of expressing one’s own talent was also emphasized upon and tasks were assigned on the basis of the imparted learnings. The outcome of the assigned tasks was to act as the gateway for final selection and the enrolment as Campus ambassadors.
The second day involved one-to-one, close-knit engagement of the campus ambassadors as ‘mentees’ with their respectively assigned expert ‘Mentors’ who are specialist in their respective fields. Each mentee was supposed to create a brief presentation on the 10 core competencies of expected from the Ambassadors included skills of- communication, leadership, networking, presentation, learning, team building & Interpersonal skills, self-management, professional etiquette and grooming, assertiveness & adaptability, and last but not the least, Ethics and social commitment. Each member had to highlight the importance of these qualities and its requirement as a competency in the Campus Ambassador.
The third day comprised of designing an Action plan based on the Competencies of ambassadors shared the previous day and was asked to share it with their respective mentors, highlighting their course of action and grounded execution, on the basis of the shared action plan.
Post the rigorous one-to-one discussions of the mentors and mentees that happened within the two days, a total of 46 girls our of 24 colleges from all over India were shortlisted for the Campus Ambassador program 2021.
The fourth day comprised of providing the Campus ambassadors the platform to share their views on their first step towards capacity-building and becoming the voice of women. The show host of Day 4 Campus Ambassador workshop, was Ms.Tejaswini S. The speakers of the session introduced various features to the Campus Ambassador programme. Ms. Sarumathi (operations head, Pracol) briefed about the procedure of becoming a Samyojika at Pracol. Ms. Sujatha Unnikrishnan (Editor-in -chief of the SheSight magazine) provided a glance at the opportunites for content curation and designing inputs of the magazine. Ms. Suji (community coordinator) explained about the engagements and usage of the Community platform of Prayaana. Ms. Keziah Thomas (entrepreneur and chief mentor at Prayaana) shared her briefings on the internship opportunities available under various women entrepreneurs, and the opportunities of placement and training opportunities available for the Campus Ambassadors of Prayaana. Ms. Anupreetha (technology expert) described about the training opportunities available in technical domain for all the mentees. Dr. Chandra Vadhana R. (CEO and chief mentor at Prayaana) delivered a talk on the need for women empowerment, entrepreneurship development and ways to achieve it. The show concluded by assignment of a major task to the mentees/ Campus ambassadors, that is to launch the Nationwide Hub launch event.
The magnificent event came to an end on the 5th day, that is, 30th December 2020, with the National Cultural Event- ‘Rise up in 2021’ virtual event, full of motivational ethos and culturally oriented events. It majorly focused upon highlighting the will-power to overcome the challenges and facing the adversities bravely. Acid attack survivors were called upon to share their wisdom on dealing with adversities in life. Colorful cultural performances were given by talented participants and the event streamed live on YouTube. The event concluded on a positive note sharing of Prayaana’s mission and pledge for the decade of – ‘Empowering 1 million girls Educationally, Economically and Emotionally by the end of 2030’.
