In a vibrant display of empowerment, hundreds of women took to the streets of Bengaluru on a splendid Sunday, participating in a spirited 3km Saree Run that defied stereotype. Organized by a local fitness center, the annual event aimed to celebrate womanhood and promote fitness on International Fitness Day.

A remarkable sight unfolded as women of all ages, from a one-year-old participant to an 86-year-old, draped themselves in sarees and hit the pavement. The run began at 6 a.m. from BGS Ground, with participants provided safety pins and accessories to ensure their sarees stayed in place. Along the 3km route, counters with drinks offered respite to elderly participants.

By 7 a.m., the first batch of runners jubilantly returned to the BGD Ground finish line, welcomed by cheers and applause. The event wasn’t just about running; it featured female performers and short speeches, providing an open stage for willing participants.

With 7,500 registrations, over 5,000 enthusiastic women turned up to support the cause, uniting in celebration and defying preconceptions about what women can achieve. Lalitha Kini, an 86-year-old participant from Mangaluru, expressed ease due to her regular walks and previous experience in similar events.

The Saree Run not only celebrated women’s strength but also shed light on women’s healthcare, offering a powerful reminder of unity. As the city’s streets were awash with colors of celebration, the event radiated the message that age knows no bounds when it comes to empowerment.
