Jojo Siwa may be known as a dancing star who leaves everyone in awe with her viral moves. However, this 19-year-old American star is much more than that!
Born in Omaha, Nebraska, on May 19, 2003, Siwa started her career only at the age of ten as a top-5 finalist and the youngest contestant on the second season of Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition. She then began to appear on Dance Moms, an American reality television series that follows the training and careers of children in dance and show business.
In May 2016, Siwa released her debut single “Boomerang” that addresses the subject of online bullying, which has more than 900 million views and received over 2.5 million likes. Apart from that, in the same year she released a line of hair bows in a collaboration with fashion accessory and jewelry company Claire’s. The line of hair bows were inspired by the hairbows Siwa is known for wearing. Her bows symbolise power, confidence, and believing-ness.
She was also named one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2020.
Earlier last year, Siwa came out wearing a tee shirt that said “Best. Gay. Cousin. Ever.” Then she went live on Instagram, where she thanked fans and celebs for their support. “Right now, what matters is that you guys know that no matter who you love, that it’s OK, that it’s awesome and that the world is there for you,” she insisted. “There’s so many people that are there for you.”
A few months later, she clarified, “Technically I would say that I am pansexual because that’s how I have always been my whole life is just like, my human is my human.”
Siwa also competed on the thirtieth season of Dancing with the Stars, in which she was the first participant to partner with a same-sex partner in the show’s history. Ultimately, She and her partner, Jenna Johnson, placed 2nd.
Moreover, on April 4, 2022, she was announced as a judge for the seventeenth season of So You Think You Can Dance, along with Matthew Morrison and Stephen “tWitch” Boss.
She’s a dancer, entrepreneur, YouTuber, actor, reality TV personality, and a judge. Just at the age of 19, Siwa has accomplished so much that she’s undoubtedly a prominent inspiration for Gen Z.
