Fashion and Art: An inevitable Affair
Art and Fashion have a long-standing relationship. These two, which come under the same umbrella of creative pursuits, have supported one another throughout time. Designers have usually cherished the presence of art, drawing inspiration from it and producing aesthetic ensembles. Although there have been many examples of art being represented through clothing, this one is particularly interesting since it is on a 7-foot-long piece of fabric known as a saree, the most versatile outfit imaginable.
Kalki Subramaniam, an award-winning celebrated Indian transgender artist, activist, poet, and actor unveiled this beautiful saree in Times Square New York in October 2022. So, what makes it so intriguing? Well, that’s ART. Kalki Creations- A wearable art, came into light with the most astounding saree with the artwork of Frida Kahlo, a Mexican painter known for her many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by nature and artifacts all over it. The suppleness of a saree and the vivacity of color are inseparably linked. The material is poly georgette satin, which is incredibly silky, durable, and comfortable to wear.
This exquisite saree is a limited edition, available in only 20 numbers. Kalki Creations offers a saree that is 7 feet long where you can custom-make the blouse. This saree with Frida Kahlo art is the first ever piece in India. The power and exuberance that this saree and the idea as a whole exude are breathtaking.
Saree, because of its allure and beauty has gained a stronghold internationally. It has become the most admired form of Indian dress over time because it conveys both power and elegance. Isn’t it amazing how a few feet of cloth can be transformed into such a lovely outfit?
Although the melding of fashion and art is nothing new, what makes it particularly notable is how it has been incorporated into Indian fashion by Kalki Subramaniam.
