June, the month of pride, is finally here and people around the world have already started celebrating. The entire June month is dedicated to uplifting the LGBTQ+ community, celebrating their culture, and supporting their rights. Throughout the month, people across the world celebrate through parades and protests. In some countries, people make this celebration a grand one by including drag shows, and festivals, which typically lasts till the end of June.Â
- San Francisco
San Francisco, often considered the gay mecca of the US, holds one of the biggest and oldest pride festivals around the world. This year, the main celebrations, including the LGBTQ parade will take place over the last weekend in June, however, a whole host of other exciting things organized by the city’s LGBTQ+ community will be happening throughout the month.Â
2. EuroPride
Taking place in September, the EuroPride never fails to amaze us. This is a pan-continental festival which takes place in a different European city each year. It welcomes speakers, performers, and activists from across Europe and from all over the world. This year, Belgrade, the Serbian capital, will host this festival. The main objective behind this festival is to create a significant impact on Western countries, which are more conservative in their attitude towards LGBTQ people compared to the rest of Europe.Â
3. Disneyland Pride In Paris
Commercial celebrations might not be everyone’s style of Pride, but if you’re a queer Disney fan, you should at least once celebrate diversity in the heart of Disneyland Paris. This year, the event will take place at Walt Disney Studios Park, and it’ll feature a parade, performances, and even a lip-syncing contest along with all the usual attractions.
4. New York City Pride
Home to the legendary Stonewall Inn, a federally recognized national monument as well as a historical LGBTQ landmark, New York City has long been the site of massive Pride marches, and one of the most favorite destinations for LGBTQ travelers. This year, New York City Pride will comprise over 50 events and welcome about three million people, culminating in the march on June 26. We can only assume that this could be the busiest, most joyous, and proudest festival the Big Apple has ever seen.Â
5. Taipei
Taiwan, a small island country, became the first in Asia to legalize gay marriage. Among the largest Pride events in Asia, Taiwan’s annual Pride parade takes place in Taipei on the last Saturday of October. Although the event began as a political rally, now it has evolved into a fun, dynamic festival. In addition to the Pride parade, this year, the celebration will feature a host of parties at Taipei’s top gay bars.Â
