Palki Sharma Upadhyay, Managing Editor of WION, resigned from her job right before hosting the last episode of her prime time show-Gravitas tonight. After an eleven-year career with CNN-IBN where she put in lots of hard work and dedication, she finally made it possible to go with WION. For the last 3 years, Palki Sharma was synonymous with WION and recently the channel roped in Madhu Soman as CBO.
Sharing the news, journalist and TV anchor Vir Sanghvi wrote on Twitter, “A great loss to Wion & a huge coup for whichever channel lands her.” Upadhyay was associated with the news broadcaster for over five years. She joined as an executive editor and was promoted to the channel’s managing editor in May 2022. Throughout the years, she has been at the forefront of covering news from all over the world. Her reportage on the ongoing conflict between Russia-Ukraine has been lauded not just by viewers across the globe, but also by world leaders like Dr Igor Polikha, Ukrainian Ambassador to India.
Following her departure, filmmaker and former Parliamentarian Pritish Nanda prophesied that ‘Wion’ will lose much of its lustre minus Palki. “This will break the backbone of WION. She was the reason why most of us watched the channel. Without her WION is unlikely to retain its current viewers,” he tweeted.
