In a historic achievement, Tenzing Yangki emerged as the first female Indian Police Services (IPS) officer from Arunachal Pradesh, securing the 545th rank in the Union Public Services Exam in July 2023. A Trailblazer’s Roots: Hailing from Tawang, Yangki’s success is deeply rooted in her family’s commitment to public service, spanning three generations of civil service officers. Her parents, Jigmi Choden and the late Thupten Tempa, served in the Arunachal Pradesh Public Services Commission and Indian Administrative Services, respectively. Yangki’s grandfather, the late Nyerpa Khow, played a pivotal role in bringing the Tawang region under Indian rule.

Her father Tempa, a former officer with the Indian Revenue Service and IAS, further inspired her dedication to public service. After completing her schooling and Bachelor’s degree in Assam, she pursued a Master’s degree in Political Science from Jawaharlal Nehru College, Delhi University. Additionally, she holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from the University of Warwick, England.

Multi-Faceted Achiever: Apart from her stellar achievements in civil services, Yangki has proven herself as a versatile individual. A research scholar at institutions like the Centre for Policy Research, she has also served as a teacher at Geku Government College in Arunachal Pradesh.
