In a ground breaking shift, automotive manufacturing giants like Tata Motors, MG Motor, Hero MotoCorp, and Bajaj Auto are making significant strides in promoting gender diversity on their shop floors. Embracing the women’s perspective, these companies are actively working towards a more equitable workforce.

Tata Motors, which already employs over 3,000 women across its six plants in India, is planning to further increase the number of women in its factory workforce. Similarly, MG Motor India aims to achieve a gender-balanced workforce with women accounting for 50 percent of its overall employees, including in factories, by December 2023.

Hero MotoCorp currently boasts a diversity ratio of 9.3 percent with over 1,500 women employees, and they have plans to substantially increase this number in the near future. Meanwhile, Bajaj Auto has witnessed significant growth in women’s employment, with its women employee strength growing more than fourfold from 148 to 667.

Although the automotive industry has traditionally been male-dominated, companies are recognizing the importance of diversity and inclusion. However, the current figures reveal a significant gap between the desired criteria and the reality. Ravindra Kumar, Tata Motors’ President & Chief Human Resources Officer, acknowledges the need to bridge this gap and highlights the company’s initiatives to promote women in the industry.
