India has clinched the fifth spot in City Index’s global study on the highest number of female billionaires. The nation proudly boasts 15 female billionaires, led by business magnate and politician Savitri Jindal, whose wealth amounts to $20.2 billion, followed by Rohiqa Cyrus Mistry, with a net worth of $7.5 billion, the wife of the late Cyrus Mistry. Topping the chart for the highest number of billionaire women is the United States, home to 97 of the wealthiest women. French heiress Francoise Bettencourt Meyers of L’Oréal reigns as the world’s richest woman, with a staggering net worth of $90.2 billion.

City Index’s International Women’s Day 2024 report reveals that the United States leads with 97 billionaire women, more than double the count of China, which secures the second position with 42 billionaire women. Germany follows closely in third place, with 22 female billionaires, trailed by Italy in fourth place with 19 female billionaires, and India rounding up the top five with its 15 billionaire women.

Savitri Jindal, aged 83, stands as India’s wealthiest woman, serving as the chairperson emerita of O.P. Jindal Group, with a net worth exceeding $20 billion. Rohiqa Cyrus Mistry claims the second spot among India’s richest women, with a fortune of $7.5 billion. India’s inclusion in the top five countries with the highest number of billionaire women underscores its growing prominence in the global wealth landscape.

The dominance of the United States in the highest female billionaires list is evident, with 80% of the wealthiest women hailing from the country. Alice Walton, an heir to the Walmart fortune, holds the title of the richest woman in the US, with a net worth surpassing $70 billion, placing her second globally. Notably, France’s Bettencourt-Meyers, aged 70, secures the first position in the world’s richest women list.

Following the United States and China is Germany, led by automotive empire heiress Susanne Klatten, whose net worth amounts to $25.6 billion. Italy trails behind with 19 female billionaires, with heiress Massimiliana Landini Aleotti of pharmaceutical giant Menarini emerging as the richest, with a wealth of $7.3 billion.

City Index conducted its study by analyzing Forbes’ billionaire list, focusing solely on female billionaires. The data, collected in February 2024, ranked countries based on the number of female billionaires and their respective net worth. The findings reflect the evolving landscape of wealth distribution and the increasing prominence of women in the global billionaire elite.
