As Navratri approaches on October 15th, Hindus prepare to celebrate the nine-day festival dedicated to Goddess Durga. To ensure the blessings of the goddess during this auspicious time, it is customary to remove certain items from your home, according to Pandit Kalki Ram, an astrologer from Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

  1. Broken idols of deities should not be kept in the house. These idols should be respectfully placed in holy rivers before the onset of Navratri.
  2. Old shoes or slippers are to be immediately discarded from the house, as they are believed to bring negative energies.
  3. During Navratri, it is essential to avoid consuming foods like garlic, onion, and fish. These items should not enter your home for the nine days of celebration. Instead, focus on sattvic foods, which are considered pure and healthy.
  4. Astrology advises against keeping non-functional clocks in the house during Navratri, as they are considered inauspicious and may bring problems into your life.

Navratri is a highly anticipated and widely celebrated festival dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga. The festival spans nine days, with each day dedicated to a different form of the goddess. Dussehra, marking the triumph of good over evil, is celebrated on the tenth day. The first three days are dedicated to Goddess Durga, followed by three days of worshiping Goddess Lakshmi, and the final three days devoted to Goddess Saraswati. This festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout the country.
