Labour Party’s Anneliese Dodds has unveiled plans to provide guidance for small businesses in supporting women experiencing menopause. This initiative, announced at the Women in Work Summit in London, aims to help small firms assist their employees during this phase of life. The guidance will include recommendations such as adjustments to uniforms, creating temperature-controlled environments, and offering flexible working options.

Earlier in March, Labour proposed that large companies should be mandated to develop and implement a “menopause action plan” outlining their support for menopausal women. This policy seeks to aid the 1 in 10 women who have left their jobs and the 14% who have reduced their working hours due to menopausal symptoms.

Anneliese Dodds, Labour’s Chairwoman and Shadow Women and Equalities Secretary, emphasized the importance of supporting women in their 40s and 50s, who often juggle work, childcare, and elderly family care while experiencing menopause. She contrasted Labour’s approach with that of the Conservative Party, accusing them of neglecting these women. Dodds believes that with adequate support, women can continue contributing their talents to the economy, benefiting both employees and employers.

Carolyn Harris, a Labour MP, also expressed her enthusiasm for the commitment to better menopause support in the workplace, recognizing it as a significant step forward in helping women thrive in their careers while experiencing this life transition.
