British junior tennis player Mika Stojsavljevic, aged just 14, has reached the semi-finals of the Wimbledon junior tournament, marking an impressive achievement for her young age. Currently ranked 282nd, Stojsavljevic made her Wimbledon debut and secured victories over notable opponents along the way. After defeating fourth seed Lucciana Perez Alarcon in the second round, she continued her winning streak by eliminating Australian 13th seed Emerson Jones in a 6-1, 7-5 victory.
Reflecting on her performance, Stojsavljevic expressed her satisfaction, particularly with her strong start in the first set. Surprisingly, she felt calm and comfortable during the match, defying any expected nerves. The young player drew confidence from her recent closely-contested match against prominent American junior Clervie Ngounoue, where she had five match points against the world number two. Stojsavljevic believes in her ability to perform at a high level and hopes to deliver her best when it matters most.
Joining Stojsavljevic in the quarter-finals are her fellow British juniors Ranah Stoiber, aged 18, and Henry Searle, aged 17. Stoiber, aiming to reach her first slam final after previously reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open, defeated Italian Francesca Pace. Searle, the only British boy to reach the third round, continued his successful run with a victory over France’s Arthur Gea.
This achievement is a remarkable milestone for British tennis, as it is the first time since 2018 that three British players have reached the quarter-finals in the Wimbledon junior tournament. All three juniors train at the Lawn Tennis Association’s national academy in Loughborough. The success of these young talents brings hope for the future of British tennis, with the last British junior singles champion being Laura Robson in 2008.
