Shreyaanshi Pahwa, a remarkably talented 9-year-old Dhrupad singer, has been chosen to proudly represent Punjab at the highly anticipated World Music and Yoga Day event held in Odisha. Dhrupad, an ancient and revered genre of Hindustani classical music, known for its deep connection with Naad Yoga, stands as one of the oldest vocal styles within the Hindustani classical music tradition.

Organized by the prestigious Dhrupad Music Foundation, the event promises to be a gathering of musical luminaries, including Padma Shri awardees such as the esteemed Dhrupad maestro Umakant Gundecha and the illustrious Odissi vocalist Padma Shyamamani Devi. Shreyaanshi, who attends Ludhiana’s Sat Paul Mittal School, embarked on her captivating Dhrupad journey at the tender age of three, guided by the revered Gundecha Brothers and their dedicated disciple, Mukund Dev Sahoo. Her debut performance took place in 2017 at an event hosted by the Dhrupad Sansthan in Bhopal.

Over the past six years, Shreyaanshi Pahwa has demonstrated unwavering commitment to her Dhrupad training, carving out a distinct identity for herself both nationally and internationally. She has showcased her prodigious talent on numerous prestigious platforms, having performed on World Music and Yoga Day on five previous occasions and gracing events such as the International Day of Dhrupad and Smaran under the auspices of the Dhrupad Music Foundation, hosted by the esteemed Dhrupad Sansthan in Bhopal.

This year’s World Music and Yoga Day will witness Shreyaanshi commencing the festival with a captivating rendition of Raga Bageshwari. Furthermore, she has been nominated for the esteemed Little Dhrupad Singer Award 2023, which she will receive during the event. She continues to captivate audiences with her soul-stirring performances, contributing to the preservation and promotion of this timeless musical form.
