Women’s representation in various professional fields, including academia and the judiciary, remains low, and experts at the HT G20 event highlighted the need for more women in leadership roles. Justice Gita Mittal shared how women were previously not allowed to study law and faced challenges in rising to leadership positions within the judiciary. Professor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit noted the lower number of women applicants for higher academic positions, despite more female students at her university. She emphasized the need for societal change, encouraging parents to educate both sons and daughters for careers.

Advocate Madhavi Divan discussed the conflict women face between their biological clock and career goals, calling for gender sensitization in educational institutions. UN Women India Representative Susan Ferguson highlighted the issue of women’s safety and the importance of infrastructure support for women in leadership. The panel also discussed the limitations of existing indices in capturing women’s experiences and the need for collecting more inclusive data. Justice Mittal urged women to support and speak up for each other.
